Getting ready for our trip to New Mexico

The whole Ronda Los Carrozas de Cifuentes is becoming progressively excited about the trip to New Mexico, and even more the 16 members who are already preparing for the tour, which is almost half of the whole ronda de navidad.

Here we are, singing along the streets of Cifuentes some 10 years ago!

The plan is already packing: the 8th of December we have the annual gathering of musical groups of Cifuentes to sing Christmas carols along the streets that morning, and then all sing ensemble the traditional La Virgen camina a Egipto in the main square. Then, from the 15th to the 23rd we will be touring and singing in New Mexico, and when we come back we all go directly into the Nochebuena y Navidad events, including the Misa del Gallo.

We will also have to practice for the annual gathering of rondas in Torija, the Certamen de Rondas Tradicionales Navideñas, because it will be that same week we arrive back to Spain, on the 28th. It is an important event for traditional rondas de navidad, and this year it happens to be the 30th edition and they have promised a surprise.

    These rehearsals are also a great opportunity to share our expectations and hopes for the trip, as well as sharing some of our traditional Spanish snacks. Mostly now that Christmas is almost here!

Are we professional musicians?

One of the characteristics of traditional rondas is that only very rarely members will be true professional musicians. Normally, a ronda is just made up of friends getting together to enjoy music during their free time, when their family or professional tasks allow for it. Each person in a traditional ronda carries behind a different professional life. This entry to the blog will give you a general overview of our professions, in an attempt to demonstrate that being musicians, in our case, is not a career in itself, but a mere result from dedication to two relevant aspects in our free time: (1) preserve cultural traditions (i.e., our intangible heritage), and (2) enjoy good moments with our family and friends.
